FREE Tax Filing Available
Free Tax Software Available:
Individuals who wish to do their own taxes without assistance may utilize the Special Portal for the City of Sacramento at http://myfreetaxes.com/?r=cityofsacramento. This site allows taxpayers to complete federal and up to 2 state returns for free, electronically file and have their refund directly deposited in their account. This service is provided through the City of Sacramento City-wide Volunteer Program in partnership with MyFreeTaxes and United Way Worldwide. Income is limited to a maximum of $57,000 for 2012 in order to file for free.
VITA and TCE Tax Sites:
Those with incomes of $51,000 or less for 2012 qualify for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance pro-gram (VITA). VITA volunteers will help prepare federal and state taxes. It is possible to also qualify for additional credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Care Credit and more, which could increase the refund amount.
